Student Withdrawal Procedures

If you are needing to withdraw from Georgia Southern University for the current term or a future term, please review the information below to determine what type of withdrawal you will need to process with the Office of the Registrar.  Be sure to read over the material carefully.

Important Information – Officially Withdrawing from the University:

Officially withdrawing from the University means a student withdraws from all of their courses. Students who officially withdraw prior to the first day of classes for the semester will receive a credit for 100% refund of tuition-fee paid. Students officially withdrawing on or after the official first day of classes will owe a prorated tuition-fee amount. Any charges or refund amounts will display in WINGS approximately two to four weeks after classes begin. Please note, student withdrawals as they relate to residence halls and food service charges are contained in agreements and/or contracts. Full Withdrawals

If you are looking to withdrawal from all of your class please review the types of withdrawals below to determine which withdrawal would be the best for you:

Voluntary Cancellation/Withdrawal If a student wishes to discontinue enrollment prior to the first day of classes, the request will be processed as a Voluntary Cancellation. Once classes begin, the request will be processed as a Voluntary Withdrawal from the specific semester(s) requested.

Medical Withdrawal This request will be reviewed by the Counseling Center. Medical Withdrawals will require documentation of significant physical or psychological impairments beyond the student’s control that interfered with the student’s ability to successfully meet academic requirements.

Military Withdrawal A student who is called to active duty to serve in the military while attending courses at Georgia Southern is eligible to receive a Military Withdrawal. Students receiving this type of withdrawal are withdrawn as of the cut order date of the provided military orders. A 100% refund is issued. The student will receive “WM” grades for all courses that the student is enrolled in during the semester and will not affect the student’s GPA. Military withdrawals are exempt from the Policy Limiting Individual Course Withdrawals.

Hardship Withdrawal In the event a student faces circumstances of extreme duress beyond their control, the student may request a hardship withdrawal from the university. This request will be reviewed by the Dean of Students Office and will require documentation to substantiate the request.

Retroactive Withdrawal This request will be reviewed/approved by the Provost Office and is only available if the student is trying to withdraw from a previous term. The Provost Office may require documentation to substantiate the request.

Partial Withdrawal

Partial Withdrawal  A partial withdrawal occurs when a student has withdrawn from an individual course or multiple courses without completing a total withdrawal from the university. Students who complete a partial withdrawal after the term drop/add period has ended will not receive a refund or tuition/fee adjustment(s) to his or her account. Partial Hardship Withdrawal

Partial Hardship Withdrawal In the event a student faces circumstances of extreme duress beyond their control, the student may request a Partial Hardship Withdrawal from the university. This request will be reviewed by the Dean of Students Office and will require documentation to substantiate the request.
